Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is an Indian entrepreneur and chairman of IIM-Bangalore, a biotechnology company and chairman and managing director of Biocon Limited. In 2014, he was awarded the Othm Gold Medal for outstanding contribution in the progress of science and chemistry.She is on the Business List of Top 50 Women of the Financial Times. By 2015, they were listed by Forbes as the world’s 85th most powerful woman. In 2016, she is listed 77 times in the Forbes list as the world’s most powerful woman.

Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chairman and managing director of Biocon Limited, is also one of the world’s most influential hundred women.

Kiran Mazumdar was born in Bengaluru on March 23, 1953. In 1968 he completed his schooling from Bangalore’s ‘Bishop Cotton Girls High School’ and then studied undergraduate in Bangalore in 1973 from Bangalore University. Later he received higher education from Melbourne city of Australia. In the year 1978, Shaw started Biocon Company. This company has done many research on diabetes, cancer-related and anti-chronic diseases. They started with the production of industrial enzymes. Growing up his work, he developed it and created a fully integrated biological drug company. He also carried out many outstanding works to promote the biotechnology sector. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw is also the President of Karnataka State’s ‘Vision Group on Biotechnology’. He has also played an important role as a member of the Advisory Council of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. Government of India honored him with Padma Shri in 1989 and Padma Bhushan in 2005 for his pioneering work in this field.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is an autonomous body of the Government of India, a member of the Managing Body of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission and the General Body. He is the founding member of the Institute’s Society for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine. He has been nominated by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as a member of the Board of Trade and Directorate General of Foreign Trade.

He is a member of the National Innovation Council of the Government of India and a member of the Governing Board of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. He is the Board Member of Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC), Ministry of Science and Technology of the Government of India and Bio Ventures for World Health and Honorary Consul of the Irish Embassy in Karnataka.

private life

He married a big fan of India and John Shaw, a resident of Scotland, who was chairman and managing director of Madura Cots from 1991-1998. Currently John Shaw is the Vice President of Biocon Limited.

Kiran Majumdar-Shaw is an art connoisseur and she has a huge collection of things related to paintings and art. She is also the author of a coffee table book, Alle and Artie, The Story of Beer.

As a citizen activist, he is associated with various programs like the Bangalore Agenda Task Force (BATF) for the development of Bangalore city.
